What’s The Best Turkey To Buy?
The best turkey must be:
-Organically certified as fresh
-Not given any GMO, antibiotics
-Must be free-range turkeys
Now I went to several different stores to check out their turkeys. In general most of the stores have the same turkeys you have the butterball and then you have one or two other brands. Now if you're going to go to Whole Foods, you're going to get more of a healthful idea of healthful options for buying turkeys. Now what is very consistent is that we are just two weeks before Thanksgiving, about a week and a half. And already the bins are fairly empty. Typically they're overflowing and there are so many turkeys you can pick any pound you want. Yet this year, not every story went to the different people working in the meat department. I would ask them what is your expectancy of Turkeys this year and they all said maybe 25 to 50% of our normal delivery of turkeys.
Best Turkey - Turkey Buying Tips
So when you find the turkey you want to go ahead and purchase it. Now when I was doing some research through America's Test Kitchen, they tested five different turkeys. They cooked them, prepared them, and then did a taste test. This was very informative because they admitted this on their video because they have more research ability than I do. But a lot of turkeys are injected with different chemicals. Not just butter as a chemical or water or salt or brine, but actually chemical synthetic chemicals and they brought this out on their video and your meat can have more of a mineral taste than synthetic chemicals.
So if you have a turkey that's being raised out in the wild, not so much the wild but on the grass that is being raised in the field that is not being kept enclosed in a really tight, you know, farm building, then you're going to have a different tasting meat. So out on the grass and needing non-GMO feed is going to be your most natural, the most healthful bird you can buy.
Turkey Buying Guide
So a lot to consider. But really, it's very simple. And with it being just a smaller quantity to choose from, find what you like, see if it matches what you want for your family. Grab it, put it in the freezer. And if you want them for Christmas, you better get it this week right now. So check out the turkeys do your investigative work. And then I hope you choose a good one.
