Grandma's Law, Timeouts and Forgiveness in Discipline

When it's time to correct your child's behavior, use "Grandma's Law," timeouts and forgiveness in discipline. That's the advice Dr. Randy Schroeder provides in this video.

If you're wondering what "Grandma's Law" is, it goes something like this: "when you finish your chicken and vegetables, then you can have the pie I baked you." Dr. Schroeder goes into more detail about using "when you, then you."

He also explains that timeouts may be a very popular method of discipline, but instead or even alongside of putting kids in timeouts for duration of their age (5 minutes for a 5 year old), he suggests having the child apologize and ask for forgiveness. He also explains why it's important for parents to apologize when they make mistakes.
