How To Cultivate Joy In Your Life
Today we're going to talk about why you're not happy, and this is going to change your world. There is so much going on in our society today so much going on around the world with job loss with the vaccine uncertainty with political unrest. There are just so many people who are looking for that happiness key. And they're looking forward to it in so many places. We're going to talk about it today with best-selling award-winning author, Pam Farrell.
We don't want to live like a yo-yo that we just respond and react to the world. True happiness is not dependent on our circumstances. I like to say that we can choose joy. And I have a story that kind of goes to nothing. Nothing is too tough to make you complain.
God can turn our mourning into dancing in Psalms 30:11. If we get up and start dancing and movement, if we do some exercise that's going to help us transform into a more happy, joyous person is going to release those happy endorphins. You know, God kind of wired us for joy, it will just take advantage of what he has shared with us that will help. And so some of the things that have helped me is one, what is joy? Like? How can I hold on to joy? What is it so that I know what I'm aiming at? And I love the verse in Nehemiah 8:10 It says the joy of the Lord is our strength. And so we really need strength in our life, especially right now. And when in the New Testament, you hop over and it says rejoice. And Lord always again, I say rejoice. And I love the meaning of that word, that little verse, that phrase. Rejoice means to be glad it can be breeding always means at all times.
So like it's God's design, that he wants to give us the kind of life that will help us be able to rejoice at all times. And he's the source of that. And because he's the creator of everything when we're depressed and we go to him, he can create a way forward for us, he can create a new path for us. He can create connections with people like you that can give us information to get us back to that place of happiness and joy.
Because the joy of the Lord is our strength and the word Lord there, it just points back to the creator, the only one who can do anything about my mood, and what's going on around me. I take it all in hand, my hurts, my pains, my frustrations, etc.
So there are three things that joy is. The first one is, it's creative. It is proven by science, that if you do if you're stressed out and you're sad, and you're depressed, and you do something creative, whether it's painting or like going out and going on a little walk and dropping these cute rocks with happy sayings on them along your path. If you do anything creative, your problems reside on one side of your brain and your creativity is on the other side. So it distracts you from your discouragement.
Joy's also proactive. We really need to be proactive and protect our mental health. One of my friends her mom raised her with, we should be our own best cheerleaders. I love that phrase. And so we should be proactive.
