Cancer-linked chemicals and contaminants are found in food, water, and many everyday products. However, cosmetics and personal care products receive the least government oversight. While many chemicals in these products likely pose little risk, some have been linked to serious health issues, including cancer.

Since 2009, 595 cosmetics manufacturers have reported using 88 chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm in over 73,000 products.

California Assembly Bill 2762, the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act, proposes banning many of these harmful chemicals, including:
