Most people think of pansies as ornamental flowers, but these colorful blooms have been enjoyed for centuries and contain beneficial plant compounds that may help support overall wellness. While they're best known for adding stunning color to dishes, they're also a simple way to increase the variety of phytonutrients in your diet.
I'll show you how easy it is to use edible pansies in everyday meals and drinks while sharing important safety tips so you can enjoy them with confidence.
In this video you'll learn:
🌸 What edible flowers are
🌸 Why pansies are one of my favorite edible flowers
🌸 The naturally occurring plant compounds found in pansies
🌸 Easy ways to use edible flowers every day
🌸 How to make a refreshing pansy-infused drink
One of the easiest ways to enjoy edible pansies is by using organic flowers that have been washed thoroughly before eating. Never use flowers from garden centers or florists unless they are specifically grown for culinary use, as ornamental flowers may have been treated with pesticides or other chemicals that aren't intended for consumption.
Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy organic pansies:
🥗 Add 3–4 fresh organic pansies to the top of a salad for a beautiful burst of color.
🥣 Garnish plain Greek yogurt with a few edible pansies, berries, and nuts for an elegant, nutrient-rich breakfast.
💧 Make a refreshing pansy-infused water:
• Place a few washed organic pansy flowers into a blender.
• Add filtered water or coconut water.
• Blend until smooth.
• Strain through a fine mesh strainer.
• Pour over ice and enjoy a naturally colorful beverage.
Beyond their beauty, edible flowers can make healthy eating more enjoyable. The more colorful and diverse your meals are, the greater the variety of beneficial plant compounds you're likely to consume.
Remember that edible flowers should complement a balanced diet—not replace medical care or prescribed treatments. If you're pregnant, have allergies to flowers or pollen, or have underlying health conditions, check with your healthcare professional before adding new edible plants to your diet.
