Sweet Conviction
The Sweet Conviction of the Holy Spirit | Correction, Learned Helplessness & Hearing God
What happens in your body when you hear the word conviction? For many of us, conviction can sound like shame, condemnation, or the feeling that we’ve done something wrong. But what if we’ve misunderstood what the Holy Spirit is actually doing?

In John 16, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Helper, the One who comes to convict us of sin, righteousness, and judgment. In this teaching, Alisa Keeton invites us to rethink conviction not as punishment, but as the loving correction of a good Father.
“The correction of the Holy Spirit is sweet.”
So, do you need help? And have you invited the Helper to help you? Alisa explores why we sometimes miss the conviction of the Holy Spirit and what being too tired, too noisy, or moving too fast can have to do with it. She also connects conviction to learned helplessness—the belief that nothing we do can change our circumstances—and reminds us that what has been learned can also be unlearned.
This is an invitation to slow down, listen, and make room for the Holy Spirit to lead us back toward freedom.

The difference between Holy Spirit conviction and shame or condemnation
What learned helplessness has to do with our ability to receive help
How our bodies can respond when we feel conviction

An embodied prayer inviting the Holy Spirit to lead, correct, and restore us
Three reasons we may miss the Holy Spirit’s conviction:
We’re too tired
The world is too noisy
We’re moving too fast
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
John 16:7–8
“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.”
