Today, we're going to learn three ways on how to dry herbs. I love cooking in general, but I even more love sharing with you the tips on how to save money, how to enjoy what God's given you, and just how to have fun in the kitchen. Aside from learning three ways on how to dry herbs, we're going to just have fun learning how to be on mission for God and his glory and it means learning to be confident in the kitchen because that's where we get our sustenance and our energy.

The Bible mentions different herbs, which I talk about in the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible study. We even have a chapter on herbs, the different herbs that were used for exchange, for money, for buying goods or for being a Roman soldier. They were paid either in salt or in herbs.

Dehydrating Herbs for Preserving Herbs is So Fast and Easy!

But today let's look at three ways to dry herbs. Let’s say you grow your own herbs, you have a nice herb garden www.youtube.com/watch and now you want to harvest them and make them last longer.
I love to dehydrate, and it is just super simple, fun, fast, don't have to even think about it. It's like my mindless way to dry herbs. So this is always an alternative. I also use the nutrimill, liquid filter pro dehydrator. Herbs are so fast drying that you can really fill the trays totally with herbs.

If I was going to dry some herbs on in the filter pro, the dried herbs still look green unlike the ones you can find in stores that are usually brown. This is why I prefer to use my dehydrator and let my herbs dry out.

How to Store Basil, Parsley, Sage, Etc - Cheap Way to Make a Dried Herb

Another thing - did you know that could dry herbs with our kids and make it a fun activity? You can use brown bags to dry some herbs. I would just pull those leaves right off of the stems and then I would just crumble them up. You will need to label the bags when you put them in there because sometimes when they dry you don't know what you did. You need to rinse herbs that you want to dry but be careful not to bruise it as it is a living plant. Then, take a clean bag to cover it but not close it up. The bag is just to keep the bugs off of it. Stand your organic herbs up in a bag and just cover it, close the top just a tiny bit and put it out on the table in the porch. That’s the easiest way and cheapest way to dry your herb.

Oven Drying Basil and Other Herbs

One other way to dry herbs is to put your herbs on a tray and and put them in the oven. Put it about 125 at the lowest setting that you can make the oven. I would just take it off and put them in there and there. I could put some parchment paper down first if I wanted to. But with herbs there's no reason to fill this tray up, put it in the oven, the lowest setting possible. Just keep an eye on it as it doesn't take very long for herbs. So probably one to two hours max is all you need.

Cooking with Dried Herbs!

And don't forget when you're playing with herbs, you really want to use herb shears that make it easy for you to cut up herbs. When you're cutting up your herbs, it just shut the shreds, those herbs so fast. You could, you could totally cut those, put it into our recipe so fast.
