A healthy breakfast can be much simpler than you think. Instead of trying to create a completely different menu every morning, use a simple formula: protein, a fruit or vegetable, a satisfying whole-food carbohydrate, and a healthy fat or seeds.
You don't necessarily need all four at every breakfast. The goal is to have a simple framework that helps you build a balanced breakfast with foods that nourish your body and keep you satisfied.
In this video, you'll discover several easy breakfast ideas you can prepare for yourself or your family, including eggs with vegetables and fruit, a simple yogurt bowl with berries and seeds, a Biblical grain bowl made with foods such as oats or barley, and a comforting cream of wheat breakfast topped with fruit.
EASY BREAKFAST IDEAS IN THIS VIDEO
Eggs + Vegetables + Fruit
Cook eggs with spinach or tomatoes and serve with grapes, berries, or another favorite fruit.
Simple Yogurt Bowl
Use plain, unflavored yogurt with berries, seeds, walnuts, and cinnamon. If you want more sweetness, add fruit rather than turning breakfast into a dessert.
Biblical Grain Bowl
Try oats or barley topped with cinnamon, chopped figs, walnuts, chia seeds, and plain yogurt.
Cream of Wheat + Fruit
A warm cream of wheat breakfast can be prepared ahead and served with fruit for a simple and comforting morning meal.
THE SIMPLE BREAKFAST FORMULA
Think about these four parts when you're planning breakfast:
PROTEIN — eggs, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, fish, or another protein source
FRUIT OR VEGETABLES — berries, grapes, figs, tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, or leftover vegetables
WHOLE-FOOD CARBOHYDRATES — oats, barley, beans, fruit, or whole-grain bread
HEALTHY FATS OR SEEDS — walnuts, chia seeds, ground flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, avocado, peanut butter, or a small amount of olive oil
You don't have to use every category at every meal. Think of this as a simple place to begin.
One of the most important things we can do is stop making breakfast more complicated than it needs to be. The best breakfast isn't necessarily the one with the longest ingredient list. It's the one that is nourishing enough, satisfying enough, and simple enough that you can actually make it on an ordinary Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
