Children of Light on the Darkest Night: Should Christians celebrate Halloween?
One night a year, many homes that belong to the light open their doors to a celebration of death, fear, and the spirit world. What would Moses and Paul say about that doorway?
In Children of Light on the Darkest Night, we ask whether Christians should celebrate Halloween by examining Deuteronomy 18:9-14, Ephesians 5:8-11, and 1 John 1:5-7.

We’ll be honest about what history can and cannot prove about Halloween’s origins, explain why the biblical case does not depend on settling those questions, and consider what it means for YHWH’s people to walk as children of light.
We’ll also be careful about what history can and cannot establish about Halloween’s origins. The biblical case does not depend on proving every historical connection. Instead, we ask a more immediate question: What are we choosing to celebrate, and what are we teaching our children to take lightly?
The goal is not fear, pride, or condemnation. It is to discern what pleases YHWH, walk in the light, and give our families something better.
