Fermented foods are special kinds of foods that have been through a natural process called fermentation. This process happens when certain helpful bacteria and yeasts work on the food. It might sound strange, but these little helpers actually make the food better for us in some ways.

When we eat fermented foods, we're not just getting the original food itself. We're also getting the good things the helpful bacteria and yeasts have made during fermentation. One of these good things is called probiotics. These are like tiny soldiers that can help our bodies fight off bad bacteria and keep our gut (stomach and intestines) healthy. When our gut is healthy, our immune system tends to be stronger too.

Now, about cancer. Cancer is when our body's cells start to grow in a way that's not normal. Some research suggests that eating fermented foods might help lower the chances of getting certain types of cancer. The reason is that these foods contain substances that can stop the bad cells from growing too fast. They sort of put the brakes on those cells, which is a good thing.

So, to put it simply, when we eat fermented foods, we're giving our bodies a boost in two ways. First, the probiotics in these foods help our immune system stay strong. Second, some of the things in fermented foods can slow down the growth of bad cells that might lead to cancer. It's like having tiny helpers inside us that keep us healthier.
