How To Buy The Right Supplements

In the world of health and wellness, supplements are everywhere. From multivitamins to magnesium, fish oil, collagen, and even greens powders—there’s a supplement for just about everything. But do we really need them?

Let’s explore how to know if you need supplements—or if you're just spending money on unnecessary ones.

1. Supplements Are Meant to Supplement, Not Replace
Supplements were designed to fill in the gaps—not be the foundation of your health.

Your body needs real nutrients from real food first. Whole, unprocessed, God-given foods like fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, beans, grains, fish, and clean animal products should be your main source of nutrition.

Before reaching for a bottle, ask yourself:
Am I eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods every day?

If your foundation is weak, no supplement will fix that.

2. Are You Actually Deficient?
One of the biggest mistakes people make is self-diagnosing. Just because your friend feels great on magnesium or collagen doesn’t mean you’ll benefit in the same way.

If you suspect a deficiency, get tested. A basic blood panel can reveal iron levels, vitamin D status, and more. Work with a health practitioner who can help you understand what’s really going on.

Don't guess—test. It might save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.

3. What’s the Root Cause of Your Symptoms?
Many symptoms—fatigue, brain fog, skin issues—can have multiple causes. Before assuming you need more B12 or omega-3s, look deeper.

Sometimes, what feels like a deficiency is really a lifestyle issue. Supplements may only act as a band-aid if the root problem isn’t addressed.

4. Not All Supplements Are Created Equal
If you do need supplements, quality matters.

Many over-the-counter brands contain fillers, artificial colors, or low-quality ingredients that your body can’t absorb well. Look for clean, third-party-tested brands with bioavailable forms of nutrients.

When it comes to supplements, cheaper isn't always better.
