The Feast of Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot, is a significant Jewish holiday that commemorates the Israelites' 40-year journey through the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt. It is celebrated for seven days (eight days for some in the diaspora), starting on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, which usually falls in September or October.

During Sukkot, Jewish families build temporary structures called sukkahs to symbolize the fragile dwellings the Israelites lived in during their journey. The sukkah is covered with branches and decorated with fruits and vegetables to reflect the agricultural aspect of the holiday, as Sukkot also marks the end of the harvest season in Israel.

Another important element of Sukkot is the "Four Species", which are the lulav (palm branch), etrog (citron), hadas (myrtle), and aravah (willow). These are waved in all four directions, symbolizing God's presence everywhere.

Sukkot is both a celebration of God's protection and provision and a thanksgiving for the harvest, and it is one of the three pilgrimage festivals (alongside Passover and Shavuot) when ancient Israelites would journey to the Temple in Jerusalem.

In addition to its historical and agricultural meanings, the Feast of Tabernacles is filled with joy, community gatherings, and prayers for rain, which is vital for the coming agricultural year in Israel.

The holiday concludes with Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, celebrations that involve the completion and restarting of the annual Torah reading cycle.

Sukkot holds great religious and spiritual significance, reminding people of both physical and spiritual sustenance provided by God.
