The Bible is full of teachings that teaches us how to walk towards the right path, which will then lead us to wonderful blessings! This is why I am always so eager to share the Good News in the Bible, which I also incorporate in my Bible Study book.
And today, we will talk more about the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus talked about the beatitudes or the 8 blessings.
The sermon on the mount summary is quite simple - it is when Jesus preached in the mount of Beatitudes and simplified all of the 10 commandments given to the people in the old testament.
Sermon on the Mount Beatitudes Meaning
The sermon on the mount all started when Jesus saw the crowd and led them at the foot of the mount of Beatitudes. This is actually a natural geological amphitheater, which helped the people to hear his voice clearly.
In this very same spot, Jesus gave to the people the beatitudes list or the 8 blessings. How many beatitudes are there and what are the blessings promised in each one? Here they are:
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
2. Blessed are those who mourn because they will be comforted.
3. Blessed are the gentle because they will inherit the earth.
4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness because they will be filled.
5. Blessed are the merciful because they will be shown mercy.
6. Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers because they will be called the sons of God.
8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
And then Jesus added, “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you. Because of me, we were called to be the light.”
Jesus is the light of the world and we were called to reflect that light.
Why are the Beatitudes Important?
By following these blessings, these blessings were meant to empower us through the power of the Holy spirit to be able to live the life that God has called us to live.
He has given us these blessings to simplify our lives so that we don't have to worry about the laws. He just says live these words - be merciful, be pure in heart, forgive.
When we're able to forgive, we're able to understand God's true love and when we understand God's true love, then his glory can shine brighter. His light can reflect greater through us and others will see that Jesus is the light of the world.
I hope this has inspired you to follow the message of the beatitudes, so you can reap wonderful blessings from God and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is indeed very enriching and feeds our soul. This is why I encourage you to read the Bible each day and gain valuable positive messages to inspire you.
