The Fear Of God

The fear of God is something the Bible talks about multiple times. We read about when Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac, and an angel of God appeared and said "Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now, I know that you fear God" But what is it with the fear of God? Are we supposed to be terrified and scared of God or does it mean something else?
