Why did the angel say "Fear not"? Christian Questions, Moments that Matter

To be able to tell someone who is afraid to “fear not” and actually have a reassuring effect on them is powerful. Helping someone to “fear not” is to replace fear with peace and assurance.

“Fear not” was proclaimed before, during and after Jesus’ ministry. Before his birth, when angels told Zacharias, Mary and a group of shepherds to “fear not” they were relaying God’s personal assurances. When God says fear not, you don’t need to be afraid.

In a recent podcast we observed that Jesus continued this pattern of assurance. His ministry brought to his followers lives far beyond their normal experiences. “Fear not” would become a common and necessary affirmation from Jesus.
