Why did some early Christians abandon the observance of the seventh day Sabbath for the first day of the week, now known as the Lord's Day? One of the reasons may have been because of a Jewish revolt against the Roma government in 132 to 135 AD known as the Bar Kokhba Revolt. This led the Roman emperor Hadrian to impose strict restrictions against Jewish religious practices, including the keeping of the Sabbath. Christians were keeping the seventh day Sabbath up to that point, as well; but to avoid being targeted by the Roman government they abandoned keeping the Sabbath and began observing the Lord's Day, instead.
