When God Feels Quiet, Is He Still Working? | A Prayer for Trust
What does it mean when God feels quiet?
You pray.
You ask for direction.
You wait.
But there's no obvious answer, dramatic change, or clear sign telling you what God is doing.
Those seasons can make us wonder:
Is God listening?
Has He forgotten my prayer?
Why can't I see Him working?
In today's Your Daily Prayer, Whitney Hopler reflects on the striking imagery of Isaiah 18:4:
“I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”
Isaiah 18 comes within a specific prophetic message concerning Cush, so this verse isn't a blanket promise that every quiet season means God is secretly preparing the outcome we're hoping for.
But it does reveal something important about God:
His quietness should not automatically be confused with His absence or inattention.
We naturally want visible evidence.
An answered prayer.
A clear direction.
A changed circumstance.
But faith sometimes requires trusting God's character before we understand what He's doing.
Like growth taking place beneath the soil, some things aren't immediately visible to us.
So if God feels quiet today, keep bringing Him your questions.
Keep praying.
Keep returning to Scripture.
Keep remembering His faithfulness.
And remember:
You don't have to understand everything God is doing to continue trusting who He is.
🙏 Today's Prayer:
“God, when I can't see what You're doing, help me resist assuming that You've left me. Teach me to trust Your character, rest in Your presence, and faithfully follow You while I wait.”
