The impressive ones were brought forward first. The tall one, the strong one, the one who looked exactly like what everyone pictured. And the one who seemed the most qualified — the obvious choice by every human standard — was rejected. Not for a flaw anyone could see, but for a reason that exposes how differently God evaluates a person than people do.

Here is what most people miss.

A principle was spoken in that moment that explains every time YOU have ever been overlooked. People look at one thing; God looks at something entirely different — something on the inside that no one screening YOU from the outside can even see. And based on that unseen thing, the search kept going past every candidate the family thought was worth presenting.

Because the one who was actually chosen was not even in the room.

He had not been called in. No one thought to include him. While the important ceremony was happening, he was out doing ordinary, unglamorous work — so overlooked that his own family did not consider him a candidate worth mentioning until they were directly asked if anyone else existed.
