YOU thought the wait was over — and then it got longer.

That is the part that almost broke YOU. It is one thing to wait. It is another thing entirely to think YOUR breakthrough has finally arrived — to see the door crack open, to feel the shift coming — and then watch it slip away and leave YOU exactly where YOU were. Forgotten. Overlooked. Still waiting, after YOU were so sure the waiting was done. And that second stretch of waiting is the one that makes YOU wonder if God forgot about YOU entirely.

Genesis 40 ends in exactly that place.

Someone had done everything right. He used his gift, helped someone in their moment of need, and did it with excellence and integrity while still stuck in his own hard place. And he made one simple request: when things turn around for you, remember me. It was reasonable. It was deserved. And the person he helped walked straight out into their breakthrough — and completely forgot he existed.

The one connection that could have set him free forgot all about him.

Here is what most people miss. That forgetting was not a failure of his breakthrough. It was the protection of a much bigger one. Because if he had been remembered right then, he would have gotten a small, quiet exit — a favor, a footnote, freedom through a side door. What the delay was actually doing was holding him in position for a moment that had not arrived yet — a moment so much larger that the early exit would have completely disqualified him from it.

The wait was not punishment. It was placement.

And there is a specific detail about the timing of what came next — how long the additional wait lasted, and the exact moment his name finally came up again — that reveals something staggering about how God uses delay. He was not forgotten. He was being saved for a door so much bigger than the one that closed that the whole painful wait suddenly made sense in a single moment.

Because the thing that made him wait was quietly setting up something greater than the thing he originally asked for.

There is a reason God let the first door close. There is a reason the wait got longer right when it should have ended. And once YOU understand what that delay was actually protecting, YOU will stop reading YOUR wait as rejection and start seeing it as preparation for something bigger than what YOU have been asking for.
