What is the biblical process to become perfect? (Pt I) Moments that Matter, Christian Questions


Visualize somebody “perfect.” What do you see? Flawless appearance, exemplary health, a sharp, intuitive, brilliant mind, a powerful voice, and a personable, passionate leadership-oriented character. Maybe Jesus fits this description, but it’s certainly beyond anyone else!

In a recent podcast we observed that when Jesus taught about God’s graciousness in sending rain and sun upon both good and evil people, he also instructed his disciples to be perfect, just like their Heavenly Father is perfect. How’s this possible? First, there are several New Testament words translated “perfect” and second they all point to becoming complete rather than flawless.

Jesus WAS perfect, yet the Bible teaches his being “perfected” through suffering and experience. This same principle applies to Jesus’ true disciples. Having the perfect gifts of justification through Christ’s blood and God’s spirit, we are also told to strive to be “perfect”, to be complete, as Christians. What does this really mean?
