What happened in the Garden of Gethsemane? Christian Questions, Moments that Matter

The Garden of Gethsemane had always been a place of peace and solitude for Jesus. However, the night before his crucifixion, it became a place of prayerful pleading and betrayal, as the events that would end his life came to a head.

Jesus prayed three times that night and each time when he came back to his friends for support they were sleeping. Jesus truly had to stand alone as he was about to face his greatest trials.

When Judas arrived to betray him, Jesus calmly embraced his destiny, showing dignity and control even as the betrayal unfolded. Jesus responded to Judas’ betraying kiss of friendship, not with anger and emotion, but with a clear and undaunted focus.

Peter then leaped into action as he saw what was happening. He grabbed a sword and wounded the High Priests servant’s ear. Jesus again stepped up. He stopped the bloodshed. His commanding message was again clear and simple as he emphasized peace over violence. He then healed the injured man.
