What does a fully supplied Christian character look like? Christian Questions, Moments that Matter

The Apostle Peter’s powerful conclusion to his Christian Character development lesson in 2 Peter 1:8-11, shows how the eight “virtue ladder” qualities—faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love—work together to form a fully supplied Christian character.

When these qualities are present and increasing, they keep us from becoming “useless or unfruitful” in our knowledge of Christ, but when they are absent, we become spiritually short-sighted, forgetting the cleansing and new life Jesus provided.

Peter then re-energizes us with a call to diligence—bookending the entire process with earnest effort in verses 5 and 10. This diligence is not frantic activity but a sincere, steady commitment to practicing these virtues so that we can keep moving forward even when we stumble.
