What did Jesus mean when he talked about hell? Pt 1 Moments that Matter, Christian Questions
Whenever Jesus spoke about hell, he sometimes referred to unquenchable fire and worms that don’t die. All of this seems to describe a cataclysmic place, event or time. The question is, what was he actually teaching?
In a recent podcast we observed that many Christians conclude all of this describes the fiery torment of an eternal hell, from which there is no relief. We would like to respectfully suggest what we consider to be several glaring inconsistencies with this reasoning.

The Greek word for “Hell” in Jesus’ teachings is “Gehenna”. It means “The Valley of (the son of) Hinnom.” This land symbolized utter destruction because of the idolatry and child sacrifices that took place there. In the book of Jeremiah, God plainly stated that such torture had never entered His mind.
