We almost didn’t make it..

But God. 🥹
I felt like marriage was going to solve all of my issues and fix me. I carried so much trauma into my marriage from being adopted & just feeling rejected. I placed really high expectations for my husband to love me in a way that’s not humanly possible. I wanted him to fix me from the lack of love I received from the womb. My need for healing was much deeper than him. Then, when he tried to love me well, I would push him away. Then, I judged him for not trying hard enough. It was almost impossible to love me. Nothing he did felt like it was enough.
Ouch. 🫣

Marriage didn’t solve my problems, it revealed them. Now, I had to look in the mirror and accept that there’s areas that I need to work on.
What helped me?
Learning to love myself. I had to finally accept God love and realize that I don’t have to work for him. His love for me is based on Him, not me.
Marriage has ups and downs but I look back and I’m so thankful that we didn’t give up in the middle of healing. It was so freaking worth it. Now, 15 years together, 13 years married with 3 beautiful kids— I can stand firm and say that fighting for your marriage is so beyond worth it. Don’t give up. 🥹 I love you so much @thisiscornelius. ❤️❤️🔥
