Singapore is at the forefront of digital technology use and is fast becoming a digital city. Screens are everywhere, and where would we be in our fast-paced world without screens, especially smartphones? That small piece of technology can do so many things. But screens come at a price. There’s a dark side to our immersion in the digital world and the increasing use of screens. With all the convenience and benefits comes a dangerous downside.
The average adult is exposed to screens for about 10 hours a day. With the increase in our use of digital technology and exposure to screens has come a corresponding increase in depression and other mental illnesses, anxiety, obesity, loneliness, isolation, reduced empathy, and reduced attention spans. Excessive use of screens is taking a massive toll on our health and well-being.
