Toxic Stress and Sanctuary: Where Mental Health Care and Ministry Intersect - Stephen Greggo
An important and data-driven concern around the globe is the substantial increase in mental health struggles (e.g. depression, anxiety, addiction, suicide, post-traumatic stress, etc.). The Gospel gives a foundation to make sense of troubling times, along with a charge to care for those who are hurting, powerless, and weakened by distorted mental processes. Beneath the cross, Gospel people embrace a theology of hope and healing, which ministry leaders can creatively apply to those whom they serve. This seminar contends that not only do ministry and mental health care intersect, but they perform best when they work together. Using an informed kingdom imagination, this workshop considers what Gospel leaders have to offer to those who openly or silently struggle with maintaining mental health.

Rev. Stephen Greggo, PsyD, was Chair and Professor of Counseling at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, IL, for 28 years. He is a licensed psychologist, ordained to Christian ministry, and a guest preacher. He has published three books with InterVarsity Press: Assessment for Counseling in Christian Perspective, Counseling and Christianity: Five Views and Trekking toward Wholeness: A Resource for Care Group Leaders. Dr. Greggo has experience with international teaching in Guatemala, China, Korea, Ukraine & the Philippines.
