This is not one of those seasons where things are simply tight. This is the kind where YOU are watching the bottom get closer — counting what is left, doing the math over and over, and coming up short every time. Everyone around YOU seems to be running out too. And the fear that has moved in and made itself at home is the quiet certainty that what YOU have will not stretch far enough to get YOU through this.

1 Kings 17 was written for that exact edge.

It takes place in the hardest season imaginable — a time when the resources everyone depended on had dried up completely, and there was no relief in sight. In the middle of that, God chose to sustain someone through a source that made no natural sense at all. Not a wealthy benefactor. Not a full storehouse. He sent provision to flow through a person who herself was down to almost nothing — someone who was, by her own account, preparing what she believed would be her final meal before she and her child gave up.

Here is what most people miss.

Into that impossible moment came an instruction that sounded almost cruel on the surface. She was asked to take the very last of what she had — the little standing between her and starvation — and give a portion of it away first, before she provided for herself. Everything in her would have screamed that this was backwards, reckless, impossible. And attached to that instruction was a promise so specific that it either had to be trusted completely or dismissed entirely.

What she did next is the whole message.

Because when she obeyed — when she gave first out of her lack instead of holding on in her fear — something began that defied every law of scarcity she knew. The little she had did not run out.
