Israel had just crossed the Red Sea. They had just seen water come from a rock. And now — without warning — the warriors of Amalek attacked. Joshua went down to fight. And Moses went to the top of the hill with the staff of God. And something extraordinary began to happen.
"As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage." — Exodus 17:11 (NLT)
"Moses' arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset." — Exodus 17:12 (NLT)
Understand this — Moses was about to break. His arms were failing. The battle was at its most critical moment. And at that exact moment — God sent Aaron and Hur. Not before Moses was tired. Not before the battle was intense. At the moment of maximum exhaustion — God stepped in. He found a stone for Moses to sit on. Two men held up his arms. And his hands held steady UNTIL SUNSET.
