The longer I continue in my journey of faith, the more I realise that perhaps one of the things of the greatest importance is also my greatest challenge: to remain. To abide. My heart is indeed prone to wander, to chase after other things. So easily tempted by the delights of this world, which, good though they are, are ultimately a lesser beauty than that of walking with God.

The call is to be ‘planted’ as Psalm 1 says, by the riverbank, bearing fruit in every season. To follow the words of Jesus in John 15 “Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” This song is my reminder to remain, no matter what happens. To stay close to the source of life. To not be “tossed and blown about by every wind” as Paul writes in Ephesians 4. I’ve experienced the times of being planted and the times of being uprooted and in chaos, and I know where I’d rather be.
