Should a Christian be patriotic?

Flags and faith collide when the government demands our soul. Romans 13:1 commands believers to honor governing authorities, but finding the balance between loyalty to our nation and loyalty to God gets incredibly messy. We naturally want to be good citizens who care about the communities where God placed us. Yet, it is terrifyingly easy for healthy appreciation to quietly shift into something that takes the place of Christ. True obedience means recognizing exactly where that line is before we accidentally cross it.
