Rest for the One Who’s Always Needed | Your Nightly Prayer
Your Daily Prayer
Are you the person everyone seems to need?
Your family needs you.
Your coworkers need you.
Your church needs you.
Someone always has a question, a problem, a responsibility, or another thing that only you seem able to handle.
And by the end of the day, there isn’t much left of you.
Tonight’s Your Nightly Prayer is for the person who is always pouring out.
Tonight’s Scripture
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.” — Psalm 23:2
Psalm 23 gives us a beautiful picture of God as our Shepherd.
And there’s something easy to miss in the image.
A hungry sheep doesn’t lie down in green pasture.
It eats.
A thirsty sheep doesn't simply stroll beside water.
It drinks.
A sheep can rest when its needs have been met.
That means Psalm 23 isn't only about God giving us enough strength to keep working.
It’s also about God bringing us to a place where we can finally say:
I have enough.
I don’t have to solve one more problem tonight.
I don't have to answer one more message.
I don't have to prove that I can keep going.
The Good Shepherd provides.
The Good Shepherd protects.
And the Good Shepherd knows when His sheep need to lie down.
If you're a caregiver, parent, pastor, teacher, healthcare worker, leader, or simply someone who feels responsible for everyone else, hear this tonight:
You are allowed to stop.
Rest is not abandoning your calling.
Sometimes rest is part of how God sustains you in it.
🙏 Where might God be asking you to stop instead of push through?
You can simply pray:
“Jesus, lead me beside quiet waters tonight.”
