Did you just pee or is it your water breaking? Let's TACO 'bout it!

For most women, the amniotic sac doesn't rupture until active labor. But if your water breaks before labor starts, remember T.A.C.O.:

TIME: Record when your water broke or started leaking.
AMOUNT: Note if it's a trickle or a gush. If unsure, pee, place a pad, lie down, then stand up. If it gushes or fills the pad quickly, it's likely your water broke.
COLOR: Your water should be clear. Contact your provider if it isn't.
ODOR: Amniotic fluid should be odorless or clean-smelling.

Bonus clue: Amniotic fluid has a high pH. If you have pH paper, test the fluid. If it's above 6.5, it could be your water breaking. Contact your midwife or doctor ASAP.

Remember, your body knows what to do! Keep T.A.C.O. in mind and alert your healthcare team if your water breaks. You've got this, mama!
