Our Plans for All This Goat Milk | Old-Fashioned Homesteading

With the goat kids growing fast, we’re looking ahead to the bounty of milk that will soon fill the jars. Today we sit down and talk about what that means — and why this year I’m finally planning to learn how to make hard cheese for the first time.

I’ve made simple farm cheeses before, but hard cheese feels like stepping into the old ways in a deeper sense. Not the trendy version of homesteading… but the kind our grandparents understood. The kind that didn’t require a big budget or a perfect farmhouse — just steady hands and willingness to learn.

We talk about what it means to be “grub stakers” — people who build slowly, faithfully, and without chasing every new thing. Real homesteading has always been about making do, making it stretch, and making it meaningful.

It’s just a simple visit today — goat milk plans, old-time wisdom, and a reminder that simple living was never about appearances. It was about provision.

Thank you for being here in our home.
