But the full verse starts: “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.” This short summary shows how Paul tightly binds these two commands—explaining that true victory over sin only comes as we first “put on Christ,” much like a diver must don scuba gear before descending. Rooted in the mercies of God revealed in Romans 12:1–2, it warns against isolating moral imperatives and urges believers to imitate Jesus moment by moment.
