Life in a Dry Cabin During | Homestead Living Without Running Water | A Journal Reading From WW 2

Life in a dry cabin homestead without running water brings a very different rhythm to everyday homemaking and simple living. In today’s homestead vlog I share a quiet day of dishes, conversation, and life here in our off-grid style dry cabin while a blizzard moves through outside.

While working at my 1909 Kohler six-foot cast iron enamel farmhouse sink, salvaged years ago from an old Detroit school, I talk about what it is really like living without plumbing, drain fields, or modern conveniences. Simple routines like washing dishes take on a different meaning when you live in a dry cabin and learn to adapt your homemaking to the seasons and the weather.

As the storm continues outside, the conversation turns to maple syrup season here on the homestead and how this late winter blizzard has delayed our plans to tap the maple trees. I also share some old b-roll footage from about 8 years ago when we were just beginning our journey learning how to tap maple trees and make syrup for the first time.

Toward the end of the video I read a World War II homefront journal entry, reflecting on the quiet strength and resilience of those who lived through difficult seasons with patience, faith, and perseverance.

This channel is about simple homestead living, old-fashioned homemaking, quiet kitchen moments, and learning to live contentedly in the life God has placed before us. If you enjoy homestead vlogs, simple living, maple syrup season, and the slower rhythms of rural life, you are always welcome here.

Thank you for spending a little time in our homestead kitchen today.
