Jonathan Ogden - Blue Feathers (Official MV)
Blue Feathers, the first single from my upcoming album, is a very personal song to me. I wrote it actually as a homework exercise for a songwriting class, I never intended it to be a song for release, but something about just writing without thinking about the expectations of what it means to be a "Jonathan Ogden" song, freed me up to get a little more poetic, and ultimately to process something that I think I had needed to for a while - the feeling of loneliness. But it was also a timely reminder of the places I find warmth: in my friendships, my walk with God, and even in writing itself. I wrote this a year ago, and it was the song I needed in that moment. This winter, I share it with everyone in the hope that it brings a little warmth and light to you as well.

Lyrics:
Blue feathers, coloured coat
Heavy weather, stay at home
Moving castle where’d you go?
I don’t want to be alone
Since this November I’ve stayed longer in my bed
Tracing reflections of the light above my head
Wanted to call you but I wrote a song instead
To keep me warm
To keep me warm
Changing platforms at Preston
3 then 4 then 3 again
Walked with you right to the end
Sunlight felt just like a friend
Since this December I’ve been talking to myself
Writing to process and I guess it kind of helps
A little taste of heaven on the days that hurt like hell
Would do me well
Would do me well
Sometimes, when the winter comes
I try to disappear
But somehow, now this morning sun
Arrives so bright and clear
To keep me warm
To keep me warm
