Is the Lord really my shepherd? Moments that Matter, Christian Questions
How do I know the Lord is REALLY MY shepherd? How do I know that my proclamations of faith are more than just words? Read the 23rd Psalm. It subtly presents us with a sincerity test. Verse 1 in the New International Version reads “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Seven words, three clear statements of faith.
First, I am seeing myself as a sheep. In a recent podcast we observed that sheep need guidance, are defenseless and need to follow. Secondly, I’m saying my fragile life is unequivocally guided by the Lord. He knows my personality, what I need, where I’m weak, and how to guide me.

Following him brings us to the third clear statement of faith. “I lack nothing.” The Lord literally gives me everything I need. If I can answer these three statements of faith in a powerfully positive way, it proves my sincerity. I can now read the rest of Psalm 23 as a personal promise to me.
