In part 1 of our series, we gave a simple working definition for bias; An inclination or outlook that prevents an unprejudiced consideration of a matter. This definition helps us focus on those damaging biases that most of us have, that prevent us from seeing clearly.
In a recent podcast we dealt with several examples. Here’s one. Many of us have personal biases towards others that belittle them. What about someone who is of a different ethnicity, or religion, or political perspective than me? Am I dismissive, do I discount them in any way? This is personal bias in action.

In the New Testament James pointed this age-old problem out. He wrote about the trap of honoring those who come into our Christian circles who appear to be well of and distinguished. He compared this to treating someone like a 2nd class citizen who comes to us appearing ragged and lowly. Such behavior is far beneath the standards of the equality in Christ we have been called to. It is wrong!
