Is mourning out loud over our losses good for us? Moments that Matter, Christian Questions


Loss can be difficult, even unbearable. Counsel for coping with such things is to go through the experience without avoiding or hiding the emotions. One of the Hebrew words for mourn actually means “to tear the hair, to beat the breasts, to lament or wail”. Wow! Pretty dramatic!

While our lamenting doesn’t need to be so dramatic, we do need to face our tragedies with an openness to feel them. Why? In a recent podcast we observed that biblical lamenting serves a purpose as it is part of a distinct four step process. The first step? Truly face the reality of our tragedy.
