Every time my son launches his model rockets to the moon, he fills the air with the pure, unfiltered joy of childhood. Every. Single. Time. Every burst of flame makes the fleeting magic of his innocence painfully evident for me. As I watch his carefree wonder, I ache knowing it will eventually give way to complex emotions. I wish I could keep him aloft, suspended in boundless joy, but all I can do is love him as he finds his way back to earth.
