Yall I had to apologize to my husband because I thought he was waaaaaay too rough with our son! 😩 Can any other mom relate?! 🙋🏽♀️😰😳🫣

Come to find out it actually was helping with our son’s overall develop. Look what this doctor said. “Psychologically, rough play encourages healthy emotional expression,” says Kally Hartman, LMFT, clinical director at Ocean Recover in Newport Beach, California.

So here are 4 safe rough play ideas you can start doing today:

✨Wrestling: My husband wrestled with our son and allows him to pin him on the ground.

✨Pillow Wars: You can have fun pillow fights with your kids. This is a fun way to engage in rough play that is safe. One caution is make sure your children are not close to any sharp edges (e.g. fireplaces, coffee tables and desk etc.)

✨Swinging: Whether it’s swinging upside down or throwing in the air or on a bed with a pile of pillows, this is a fun way to help your child regulate their emotions. Our son loves being upside down.

✨Tag You’re It: My son loves to chase his father around the house. This can also lead to a wrestling tackle by both of them.

So you should always talk to them about rules of rough play. Also, what are the boundaries of the rough play and/or what do they like or not like? This could be a great discussion for your kids about the importance of self-control and where to draw the line with their friends who want to play rough.

Just know that the healthy endorphins are being activated and your kid’s mood should be happy!

As always, first consult with your child’s physician for what’s safe for them before making any changes. ❤️
