How do we know Jesus is the promised messiah? Pt 1 Moments that Matter, Christian Questions
Here’s a surprising fact. The Old Testament word for “Messiah” is only translated that way twice and it’s used thirty-seven other times! This word simply means “anointed” or “consecrated” and applies to many individuals. The priests of the Jewish Law and Israel’s kings were all “anointed”.
In a recent podcast we observed the sacred privilege and responsibility of being one of God’s many anointed leaders. Does this minimize our Christian perspective of THE Messiah? Does it make him just another chosen one in a long line of chosen ones? No! Old Testament prophecies reveal, Messiah is represented in many different ways. Though rarely called the “Messiah” he is often described as a king, a priest, a shepherd, and a lawgiver. The list goes on.

While these descriptions reveal the utter magnitude of the Messiah’s position, there are other issues. Some Jewish faithful claim Jesus is not the Messiah for several reasons. Among them, they claim the genealogies given in Matthew and Luke have a variety of disqualifying issues. They also state that Jesus’ death meant failure, which disqualified him as well.
