God’s Nearness in Darker Evenings | Isaiah 60:19
“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light…” — Isaiah 60:19
Darkness can be external.
But sometimes it feels internal too.
Seasonal changes can affect our emotions in very real ways, and some people experience significant seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorder.
Faith does not require pretending that heaviness isn’t real.
But Scripture gives us a powerful image:
God Himself as everlasting light.
Isaiah points toward a future where darkness no longer has the final word.

And even now, we experience His presence through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus says in John 12:46:
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
That doesn’t mean Christians never experience depression, sadness, loneliness, or difficult seasons.
It means those seasons do not separate us from God’s presence.
If tonight feels heavy, bring that heaviness honestly to Him.
And if the sadness feels persistent, severe, or difficult to manage, reaching out to a trusted friend, counselor, pastor, or healthcare professional can be a wise and faithful step too.

“Jesus, be my light in this season.”
