The tune of this song was used as the national anthem of Austria until the Habspurg empire's dissolution in 1918. It was again adopted for a national anthem in 1922, this time by Germany, and it continues to serve that purpose today. Serendipitously paired with hymn lyrics provided by John Newton, the tune could serve well as an anthem for an even greater, heavenly country. "Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God."<br />
