Flowers - Jonathan Ogden (Lyric Video)

This month I’m sharing perhaps the most personal song from the album, NIGHT. In some ways, it feels like this is the song I’ve tried to write so many times and it came out in different forms across the songs on this album, but when this one came to me a couple of weeks before I finished the album, I felt like I’d finally said what I wanted to say.

Verse 1:
Met you in the autumn
My summer and my rain
We shared a kind of shelter
We shared a kind of pain

You were my destroyer
You broke through years of shame
And you told me to have courage
To not be so afraid

Chorus:
Then you brought me flowers
Reminding me there’s beauty still
I look at them for hours
‘Cause I love you and always will

Verse 2:
You were my protector
I was your surprise
I’ve never known another
To be quite so alive

But you have run your race now
And I am left behind
You told me to keep smiling
To go on with my life

Chorus:
And they all brought you flowers
Reminding me there’s beauty still
I look at them for hours
‘Cause I love you and always will

Verse 3:
Jesus are you with me?
Do you still hear my prayers?
Sometimes, when it’s quiet
I don’t feel you there

Maybe I’ve been distant
Maybe I’ve grown cold
But there’s something in the silence
And deep down I still know

Chorus:
‘Cause then I see the flowers
Reminding me there’s beauty still
I look at them for hours
‘Cause I love you and always will
