In 1 Samuel 11, King Nahash and the Ammonites came against Jabesh-Gilead, an Israelite town. Nahash’s name meant serpent, and he was certainly a snake. The people of Jabesh-Gilead pleaded for Nahash to make them their servants. Nahash agreed on one condition, that he would pluck out all of their right eyes. Jabesh-Gilead immediately sent a message to the king of Israel, Saul. The Holy Spirit came upon King Saul when he heard the news, and he was angry. Quickly, he gathered the people of Israel to fight against King Nahash and the Ammonites. King Saul sent an encouraging message to Jabesh-Gilead. “By this time tomorrow you will have help.” The next day, God fought for Israel and the people of Jabesh-Gilead. And King Saul and Israel destroyed the Ammonites. They scattered them to the point that not even two were left together.
