Do You Miss Your Old Life? A Prayer for Grieving What Was

Do you ever miss the person you were before life changed?

Before the diagnosis.
Before the loss.
Before the relationship ended.
Before your body changed.
Before pain became part of your story.
Sometimes grief isn’t only about losing someone.
Sometimes we grieve the life we used to have.

Tonight’s Your Nightly Prayer is for anyone quietly missing what was.

Tonight’s Scripture
“A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” — Ecclesiastes 3:4

Amber Ginter knows this kind of grief personally. After becoming mysteriously ill following college, her life and health changed dramatically.
Years later, she still knows what it means to miss the body and life she once had.

And maybe you understand that feeling too.

Perhaps you’re grieving your health.
Someone you loved.
A friendship.
A marriage.
Your childhood.
A dream.
A happier version of yourself.
Or simply life before something painful happened.
Scripture doesn’t ask us to pretend those losses don’t hurt.
There is a time to mourn.
Faith doesn’t mean forcing yourself to call something painful good.
It means trusting that even here, God has not abandoned you.
Tonight, bring Him what you miss.
Tell Him what hurts.
Grieve honestly.
And allow yourself to receive His comfort without demanding that you understand everything first.

🙏 What part of your old life do you find yourself missing most?
You can simply pray:
“Jesus, meet me in the grief of what used to be.”
