THE ABC'S OF SALVATION

A = Admit you are a sinner and you can’t be perfect and holy enough in God’s eyes to be right with Him on your own. Turn away from your sin.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom. 3:23

B = Believe that Jesus (God in the flesh) lived the perfect life you couldn't live, died on your behalf to pay the price for your sin, and rose from the grave to conquer sin and death. He provided you the way to be right with God – to be forgiven and free from condemnation.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus, our Lord.” Rom. 6:23

C = Confess that Jesus is your Lord – this means, Jesus is now your Master and you live your life for Him and His glory rather than for yourself. You say it out loud to others and you live it from now on.

“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.” Rom. 10:9-10

Jesus never called anyone to know Him casually or to just recite a prayer one time and then continue living for themselves. Jesus called people to “follow Me” – as in – for the rest of our lives and all of eternity. He called us to make Him Lord of our lives.

We sometimes gloss over the word, “Lord,” as if it is no big deal. But if Jesus is LORD of my life – it is the biggest deal of all time. I give Him total control over my life from that moment on. Life is no longer about me. It is all about what Jesus wants.

He did everything necessary to make a way for me to be right with God. I receive His sacrifice for me and His gift by faith.

Then I let Him transform me by His Word and His Spirit. I make myself totally available to Him. I give Him control and I hold back nothing.

Here are some things that Jesus says about what it means to follow Him and to be His disciple. He gave all that He had and all that He was for us – now we have the honor and privilege of giving all that we have and all that we are for Him. He is worthy of nothing less than everything.

- Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.” John 14:22-24

- Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.” Matthew 16:24-27
