Building: The King Charles III Sacristy
Come behind the scenes at The King Charles III Sacristy - a new building being constructed at the Abbey to transform the welcome we offer our visitors.
Beautifully crafted from traditional materials including handmade bricks, specially-quarried stone and sustainably-sourced oak, the building stands on the footprint of Henry III's medieval Great Sacristy.
Due to open in early 2027, it will house state-of-the-art welcome, security and ticketing facilities and reflect the history of the original Sacristy by freeing the Abbey for worship and pilgrimage.
Once open, the building will also allow visitors to follow in the footsteps of royalty by entering the Abbey through the Great West Door. From there, they will enjoy magnificent views of the full length of the church and be inspired by the beauty and wonder of the Abbey.
