Beyond Numbers: Exploring the Motivations of Large Families with Dr Catherine Ruth Pakaluk
Lisa Canning
I am fascinated by the motivations that people bring to the world. As a business and life coach, I am always seeking to understand what is going to get my clients to move, and what motivates me, as well.

With my love of understanding motivations in mind, I was intrigued by the release of Dr Catherine Ruth Pakaluk's new book Hannah's Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth. As the book's description reads: "In the midst of a historic "birth dearth," why do some 5 percent of American women choose to defy the demographic norm by bearing five or more children?"

Today on the podcast we will unpack what Dr. Pakaluk's 55 interviews with American women with college degrees who have 5 or more children, and 100 hours of recorded research yielded about the motives and motivations of this group of women.
